Things to do in Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest state park, established in 1935 about 50 miles (80 km) northeast of the Strip, roughly an hour's drive via I-15. Entry in 2026 runs $10 per vehicle for Nevada residents and $15 for out-of-state plates, checked against your registration at the entrance station.

The park's red sandstone has been carved by erosion into shapes best seen on two short trails, Fire Wave and Elephant Rock, each doable in under an hour. There is almost no shade along either route, and summer temperatures regularly pass 45°C (113°F), so bring more water than feels necessary and skip midday hikes between June and August.

October to April is the more comfortable window. Most visitors treat it as a half-day trip from Las Vegas; no overnight stay is needed.
